Hi:

I tried to send this out earlier in the week but ran into some problems.
Hope it's not too late if you have an interest in the robot circus on
Saturday.

Email me for more details.

***************

Nice to meet with some of you last Friday. Too bad we had
to rush away just when things looked like they were really
getting started.

A few things that I wanted to mention might be of interest:

The meeting that we had to rush off to was the TSME monthly.
We were on the program to show the robot that we built for
the First Canada Robotics games.

TSME (Toronto Society of Model Engineers) is a group whose
main interest is building stuff. Some do steam, some IC
(internal combustion) some boats, some robots...

I would say that the main thing that connects them all is the
fact that they use machine tools.

If you ever need help making things from hunks of metal,
this is a great group to ask.

More info here:
http://www.tsme.ca

For those of you with a robotics interest, we have started a Toronto area
Group here: torobotics@yahoogroups.com

Feel free to subscribe or you can email me and I will set you up.

Java programmers with an interest in robotics might be interested in the
jstamp. This is a native mode Java chip that can be used to control
your bot.

I don't know much about it but one of the people, Brill Pappin, who is on
torobotics has been playing with it.

This Saturday, April 20th, there will be a "Robot Circus" at the
Orangeville District Secondary School.

This is an open invitation to anyone with any robotic interest
to come, show off your stuff and just talk robots.

We don't have anything Mindstorms yet so if any of you want to
head North... :-)

Dennis Weishar, who is the Tech ed teacher at Orangeville Secondary,
is starting something I call "Little League Robots".

The idea is to involve high school age kids, have several competitions
throughout the year and keep the cost down.

I think that Lego Mindstorms fits very nicely in this catagory.

If you have an interest you can contact Dennis
at dweishar@hotmail.ca or on the torobotics group.

Thanks,

(...) I'm sorry I missed it! I just looked at the TSME site, and am very impressed. I can't fathom how someone could possibly have the resources, knowledge, skill, and time to make things like turret lathes, violins, and engines from scratch. You (...)
