Here’s a few points that I’m pondering--

Knowing the Mindstorms community throughout the world, if there is a way to make old sensors/motors/RCX/Scout/Microscouts/etc. work with the new NXT, they’ll find it in under a month and post schematics/instructions/steps/whathaveyou... :)

That will depends on how they do their digital fire signal. Given that they are encourging 3rd sensor it’s probably very open and not too complex.

One serial IR transceiver hooked up to one NXT port should be able to communicate with all RCXs and Spybots, and solve the backward compatibility issue.

From reading the press releases and from viewing the pictures, having multiple sensors or multi motors on one port thing doesn’t look doable, but again, as above, if there’s a way, the community’ll find it if there’s a way.

Yeah the old analog wires allow serial and parallel hook up. I hope the new communication protocol can allow simple switch/hub for muliple motors and sensors.

I’m already loving the postings here at LUGNET--I’d say 98 to 2 percent in favour of the new NXT. I think that’ll change to around 100 when ‘normal’ (1) people get their hands on it.

Well the first bad is our Canadian price...

3 motors was IMO the biggest limitation of RCX. Too bad they haven’t manage to fix that. May be power issue?

Using AA battery again is good for me since I got a fast NIMH charger.

The sensor part is significantly improved over RIS - You got 7 sensors out of the box. The new motor is huge but with build in sensor it will allow much simpler models. Doing Project X again with NXT will be easier since the rotation sensor should take care of the X-Y coordinates.

Technic has been going studless for years so that is expected. From the photos the set still has a few short stud beams.

I hope there is enough RAM to do some real fun stuff in software.

NXTs probably can talk to each other through bluetooth. I am reading up docs now to learn how this thing works.
