  Re: Website Host speeds

(...) No good -- some of the listed sites have a firewall which blocks (normal) ping and traceroute. You could use a tool that does TCP "pings" using the http port, but probably actual file download speed is the number you want to measure anyway. (21 years ago, 9-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Website Host speeds

(...) Find decently-large files on each site and compare their download speeds. For me both at BU and on my DSL connection at home, the first two are blazingly fast and the third is pretty slow. The fast ones I get at over a megabyte a second (...) (21 years ago, 9-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Website Host speeds

(...) If you can find a traceroute server close enough to your location, I think it would provide a somewhat accurate representation of what you want. Go to Google and search for "traceroute" -Orion (21 years ago, 9-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Website Host speeds

Does anyone know of a good way to compare the speed of website hosts that does not involve pinging? I'm particularly interested in comparing the speeds of: www.bldesign.org (currently hosted by atlnetworks.com) www.scibrick.org (hosted by (...)   Re: Three updated and one new Mortar Headd!

(...) Diamond Comics, why that's where I work! But we don't seem to have any new Mortar Headd items yet. That's not to say that it's not in the works (I'm too lowly to get the good dirt). Remind me and I'll look into it. Aaron S (21 years ago, 4-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.geek, FTX)

  Re: 486-33 8Mb

(...) I don't think 6.1 would install without 32 MB of ram -- that's when they went to the python-based installer. And 8.0 and 9 require at least double that again. :) (21 years ago, 2-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: announcing TrackDraw (BrickFest preview)

(...) In support of the LAST point (below), which strikes me as the most important point (why do hobby stuff it it's not FUN???)... I would suggest that all platform changes that others do be done using the equivalent of #IFDEF so that the .net (...) (21 years ago, 2-Sep-03, to lugnet.cad.dev, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

(...) ... This is very interesting, but I want to set expectations clearly: - I will not spend any time porting TrackDraw to another platform. - I will release sources with the executable so that others may do so. - I will not integrate changes made (...) (...) I suspect Derek isn't going to double the ram. The alternative is tossing the box which he seems inclined to do. (21 years ago, 2-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

(...) Yes, since I started one for you: (URL) .NET to Linux (?)> The people at (URL) Ars Technica> are always very knowledgable. And if they don't know something, they do know where you can go to find answers. (21 years ago, 2-Sep-03, to lugnet.cad.dev, lugnet.off-topic.geek, FTX)
