Well, we're surplussing a bunch of older G3's (266 AV-capable towers and 300
desktop models) and I'm bringing one home to fiddle with.  I figured the 300
would be better to mess with, although I'm not so sure after seeing how
little internal expansion room there is.

I've scavenged memory from 2 other 300's, giving mine a total of 192mb RAM.
This model has a tiny (6gb) hard drive, an internal Zip, and an internal
CD-ROM.  I installed OS X on it before I left work on Friday and figure I'll
be bringing it home next week.

What I'm wondering, after seeing no easy way to add another internal hard
drive (and since these are surplus-ready machines, I don't see myself asking
work to spring for external scsi drives), would I be better off going for
the 266 mini-tower model which presumably has more internal expansion room?
Would I be giving up too much speed-wise to go with the 266 instead of the 300?

I'm actually kinda looking forward to having a Mac at home to play with -
especially after seeing OS X's interface.  My only concern is I've grown so
used to sitting around the apt with my Dell Laptop surfing via my wireless
(802.11) connection that I may find it hard to go sit at a table or desk
again.  If only I could get a G4 Powerbook.  :)

(...) Hi Mike, Is the internal drive in the upper left bay or attached to the bottom of the case? most of the ones with IDE drives have them in the lower case position and the SCSI ones are in the upper left bay above the zip drive. you ought to be (...)
