Not if you have #7. I have a PCMCIA adapter for my desktop computer ($10 at
the MIT flea; $50 online somewhere), and you can get $3 adapters for compact
flash cards, and probably-slightly-more-expensive adapters for smartmedia.
This is much much faster.

Don't worry about it -- as others have suggested, get NiMH rechargables.
There's something in the way that alkaline batteries work that makes them
really bad for digital cameras -- they'll only suck the top of the charge
off of the battery (so to speak). It'll be completely dead for use in the
camera, but when you take it out, it's still 75-80% full. NiMHs don't have
this problem, so even though they've got smaller capacity, they last far
longer. (And of course, they're rechargable.)
