Numlock in KDE / Gnome?

Hey all,

While we're injecting more life into .geek, can anyone tell me how I can force
numlock on when I start my X session?  I'm (currently) using KDE v1.x, but I'd
rather it be a generic X solution...

(...) I have trouble believing this, but as far as I can tell (and I asked several people who know more than I) there is no good way, short of patching the code. Apparently, the numlock key acts as a modifier in X, and it might somehow confuse some (...) (24 years ago, 21-Jun-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)
