I had figured that a totally web based mail would be better for Taya but
there is merit in your suggestions, thanks, all!

Hi Larry!

Do you use Outlook or Outlook Express for your mail client?  If so, how about
signing up with NetZero and setting an account up for her there?  You don't
have to use the dialup after you sign up and it gives you a POP3 account that
you could set her up her own profile in Outlook/OExpress... or if you use
MultiUser Profiles in Windows like I do, the email profile is attached to the
user login... you could set it up so her client doesn't remove messages from
the server and add her account to your profile and pick up the messages from
your account and then remove them from the server to monitor her mail in your
email... just set a folder and a filter and you can sort them automatically.
It's easy enough for younger ones to use and no ads whatsoever... you can
apply filters as you see necessary should any problems arise.

Can someone suggest a free email service that is suitable for kids? What
I am looking for is one that doesn't have ads for gaming, etc. in its
banners. Other than that I haven't really thought about what it means to
be "suitable for kids" although I welcome suggestions.

Taya has been asking for one and I'd been holding off but I think 10 is
old enough for a supervised email (I told her that she had no right to
privacy with this one, we would have to know the PW and userID so we
could check if we wanted to... and no chatting).

I've never really thought about this before, I've always had email
through one of my accounts, but I think that a web based mail approach
is the way to go for Taya.
