**minor spoilers**
I don't really want to get into an argument or anything, (everyone is of
course entitled to their opinion ) but I liked this film a lot. As a
Spielberg movie AND as a Kubrick movie. Obviously it would have been much
different if Kubrick had directed it, but I believe Spielberg did a great
job.
I do think their are a few flaws such as some unnecessary expository dialog
(in other words some times its better to "show" the story instead of "tell"
it). Also I realize that the future mecha are suppose to look perfect and
glassy but I think they might have looked a little too old school CG (you
know the "shiney" look)
The ending was very ambitious but I think for the most part it was pulled
off. It seemed to me the type of sequence you encounter in classic sci fi
novels and stories but rarely on the screen. The film could have obviously
ended with the shot pulling back from coney island but that might have been
the easy route. Also worth noting is that the final coda was Stanley's
original ending in his premise. It was not in fact added to be more
"Spielbergian" like some people think.

| (...) That's part of what I liked about the movie as well. I thought it felt very "Real SF" in comparison to most movies, which are generally dumbed down and flashed up to make the most money. Anyway, I liked it too. :^) ~Grand Admiral Muffin Head (23 years ago, 8-Jul-01, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)
