In lugnet.space, Jonathan Mizner writes:
I have recently been doing a study of the Martian mini-figures.  I
actually did a fair bit of research, comparing Lego.com/mars, the catalogue,
and the back of the box from the TRU value pack.  Here's what I found: (yes,
I know many of you think this is stupid, but I find it strangely fascinating)
A list of all LOM figures I could find:
HUMANS:
Assistant-assistant to Doc
Doc-commander?
BB-pilot and/or copilot
Mac-pilot and/or copilot
MARTIANS:
Riegel-General (possibly Commander of Martian colony)
Rizar-Pilot/guard
Cassiopeia-technician
Altair-pilot/citizen
Vega-mech pilot, possible technician
Antares-"doctor' (according to Lego, but piloting a mech?), likely a worker
Arcturus-citizen, used to be leader of colony
Canopus-Scientist
Centauri-Guard and pilot of the RPP
And MANY more!

My research seems to prove that the Martians are based of a hive/colony
system.  They are not ruled by a Queen Martian, but do follow some of the
same rules.  There are several types of Martians, Guard, Pilot, Worker, and
possibly scientist.  All Martians have names, but most often the
"less-prominant" Martians are reffered to simply as "that Guard Martian" or
"Hey, you, worker-person".  Pilot Martians wear a special type of mask that
fits onto their face, and is similar in design to the others.  Guards also
wear a type of mask (actually two types), and workers sometimes wear an
eye-protection mask (reason unknown).  There are always exception to this,
for various reasons.  It appears that there are several races and/or types
of Martians as well.  The most common type, the "blues" are found in nearly
all ranks and services.  The other type, the "greens" are very rare, and
only serve as high-ranking people, such as General or the leader of the
colony.  The General of the Martians wears a special item on the front of
his uniform (black).  The purpose of it is unclear, but it is likely a
symbol of rank.  All signs indicate that Martians have a (somewhat) sense of
taste in clothing.  They all wear different clothes in many different
colors, but never in skin-tones, strangely enough.  The colors include:
orange, red, jungle-green, white, pink, black, tan, grey, purple, blue, and
possibly others.  Interestingly enough, the human astronauts do not wear
gloves...  Their hands must get very cold in a vacuum.
This was a serious project, and I hope many of you find it useful and
interesting (likely just interesting).  Please e-mail if you have
information regarding these Martians.  And please LMKWYT!

I find this study interesting, and it is really strange also.  The strange
thing about it is that TLC would assign so many character identities to such
a new thread (kudos!), but add so few to classic threads (such as the
Knight's Kingdom).  Good work Jonathan!
Best wishes,
Aaron
