My condolances.
Here, I'll start again in hopefully a less confrontational manner and try
and make clear my position.
From a certain standpoint, Catholicism introduces things that, personally, I
would agree are of a debatable Biblical accuracy. Other things may have
some grounding in the Bible, but are of a rather liberal interpratation, or
transformed by time into something that has strayed too far from the source.
And probably made some stuff up out of the blue - 2000 years is a lot of
time to introduce errors.
My complaint derives from claiming that Catholicism isn't Biblical
Christianity. This carries the implication that it isn't based on the
Bible, which it clearly is, regardless of whether it is perfect or not. If
perfection is the critieria, then find me a religion that's perfect. Saying
a religion isn't Biblical Christianity is virtually the same as saying it
isn't Christian - where does Christ exist outside of the Bible (in the
written record)? There's an inherent criticism in such a claim, whether you
realize it or not. There's also an arrogance in claiming that any
particular practice they have isn't based on the Bible when it clearly is,
just not to your interpretation. A Catholic could use that kind of argument
to claim whatever you are practicing is wrong and therefore not Biblical
Christianity - and I'd be speaking up in *your* defense if that was the case.
