Miami Auto Show opens...first major American show!

The second major international auto show and the first major American
international auto show has kicked off in sunny Miami. The South Florida/Miami
International Auto Show, which was introduced in 1970 (when the only other
auto shows were in Chicago, Detroit, and New York City), celebrates it's 30th
year in style. Here's a look at the new models at the first of America's "BIG
FIVE" auto shows:
Ford Explorer: Ford's best-selling SUV get's a complete overhaul. Features
include a third-row of seating and rougher styling. The styling cues give way
to the Ford Expedition. On sale in Miami and Los Angeles February 2001.
Eveywhere else March 2001.

Ford Focus Street: This isn't a concept, it's the newest addition to the Ford
Focus compact car line. On sale December.

Honda Civic: The all-new Civic provides more space and style than ever before.
Available in coupe and sedan bodystyles. On sale now.
Kia Optima: Introducing the "biggest Kia - EVER!". The Optima, based on the
Hyundai Sonata, features a 2,7 litre V6 engine pumping out 185bhp. On sale now
in Miami. December everywhere else.
Chrysler Sebring Convertible: America's favourite convertible get's an all-new
look. On sale December in Miami and Orlando. January everywhere else.

Lincoln Blackwood: A Lincoln pick-up truck!?! Yup, that's right. The all-new
Lincoln Blackwood goes on sale in the spring.

Mercury Moutaineer: Mercury's all-new Moutaineer diferates itself more than
ever from it's Ford Explorer brother. The new Moutaineer takes on edgier
styling cues with a more modern look. On sale spring.

Hyundai XG300: If you ever though Koreans couldn't make luxury cars, you were
wrong. The Hyundai XG300 luxury sedan starts at $22,999 and tops off at
$24,999. Standard features include Italian leather and a Porshce 5-speed
Tiptronic transmission, as well as Hyundai's 10-yr/100,000 mile powertrain
warranty.
Hyundai Elantra: An all-new Elantra for an all-new year. The new Elantra
features a more modern, flush look, and, for the first time, is avilable in
five-door hatchback, in addition to four-door sedan. 4dr on sale now; 5dr on
sale November.
Saturn SUV: Saturn's first ever SUV is here. On sale in late 2001, the SUV
still does not have a name, though it is rumoured to be named SUV. The SUV,
based on the Opel/Vauxhall Vectra/Saturn L platform, will feature four- or six-
cylinder engines and start at around $17,000.

Volvo 60-Series: It's a ReVOLVOlution with all new Volvo 60-Series, which
introduces curves no Volvo has ever seen before. The all-new sedan goes on
sale in Miami, Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, San
Francisco, and Seattle in November, other markets in December.
Chevrolet TrailBlazer: A new mid-size SUV that does not replace the Blazer,
the TrailBlazer offers a best-in class 260bhp I-6 and seating for up to eight.

Hummer H1 Slantback: A new version of the well-known Hummer features a slanted
back.
Ford Thunderbird: The production version of Ford's new retro cruiser has
debuted in final street-ready form.

There were numerous other vehicle debuts, such as the new Daewoo Nubira Sport,
and commerical debuts such as the Acura MDX.
