<SNIP>

Last week my limits were exceeded.  A kid came in, plopped down on the
family computer and proceeded to download his email.  I was in the other room
and not aware of this untill later.  The next day a different kid plops down
and browes around until he finds our home page of interest, and proceeds to
ridicule our views expressed on the page.  (This second kid is not a friend,
just a physics partner for a project my son got stuck with.)

Sounds like the rules should be clearly laid out on computer usage.  Especially
if you don't have unlimited internet time.  Even if you do have unlimited internet
time I would still post rules.  One of them being "no downloads unless someone
is there to supervise."  I'm sure you trust you own kids enough to allow them
to supervise their friends when using the computer.  If all else fails, take the
phone cord.

I am feed up with parenting the entire neighborhood.  These kids missed
out on basic training, and I don't feel like spending my emotional energy
correcting them.  Maybe I should just post a list of rules on the computer.

I'm glad that there are still parents out there who are caring enough to
supervise other people's kids.  The impression is that most parents can't even
supervise their own kids.

Thank-you for allowing me to vent.  I feel better now.
Louise

Venting helps a lot.  Let me know how you take care of the situation.

I make a big effort to make my boys' (ages 14, 16, 17) friends feel (...) (26 years ago, 11-Nov-98, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)
