By the way, in a small flock of chickens, the individual birds exhibit • clearly
differentiated personalities. So does that indicate the kind of stupidity • that
you're claiming?

Out of curiosity, how is this determined, other than by casual observation?
And how broad a range of behaviors do the chickens exhibit?  This would seem
central to a useful discussion of chicken intelligence.
By the way, is your use of "personalities" in this context an unfortunate
accident of anthropomorphizing or a subtle method of propaganda?

Hi,

I'm out of town and this is likely to be my last access to the net until Monday
or Tuesday, so I'm a bit behind.  In backward order:

It was not a subtle propoganda on my part, but now that it's pointed out, I
think it's fun.  After just a quick think, I'm not coming up with any better
words.   Do you have a suggestion?  Chickenalities just doesn't cut it.  I
guess I could say individualities, but really, _personalities_ means exactly
what I mean, but applied to chickens.

As to how it is determined...I guess you'd say through casual observation,
though I'm pretty convinced that a more rigorous qualitative study would result
with the same outcome.  I'm not sure how to quantify personality traits, but
I'm sure it's been done.

And, I'm not sure what the range of traits is.  Rather little of my opinion
comes from personal observation, but mostly through much reading.  Maybe I'll
get back to you on this one.

Chris
