Honestly, there is something romantic about the idea, just like there is about
hiking the Appalachian Trail, which is something I'm working toward (but my car
will be waiting for me that the end). And maybe for a New Yorker, it really
does make the most sense, but I'd never live in New York City.
On the other hand, I've been driving for fifteen years and in that time I've
driven around 250,000 miles through 43 states and 3 Canadian Provinces. I've
seen a lot of North America that you might have missed. I really treasure many
of my road-trip experiences (even the less than pleasant ones like losing my
water pump on the way home from Chicago and having to wait in this little town
for eight hours while they worked on my car).
