Hi all,

I was listening to the Diane Rehm show today and there was a caller after an
interview with President Clinton who complained about all the time that the
executive and legislative branches wasted conducting and hearing the
impeachment of the president.  That struck me funny and my first reaction was
that keeping them all busy was a good idea.

So now, my new suggestion to improve the government of the US, is to keep a
constant impeachment process going.  In fact, multiple ones.  The more clogged
that law-makers are, the less they can screw up.

Anyone?

Chris

Been there, done that.  Or at least the California Republicans have.  Sorta.
They had a one vote edge in one of the two state houses and were exultantant
that they would finally replace the demonized Willy Brown as Speaker of the
House with one of their own (and one of the most obnoxious ones at that).
Well, he was too obnoxious, and one of the borderline Republicans went
independent and voted for Willy Brown.  The Republicans freaked out, dropped
everything and ran a recall against the offending ex-republican (who happened
to be the representative from my district).  After successfully ousting the
"traitor" and getting a compliant stooge elected, another Republican bolted and
she was elected by her own vote and that of all the democrats.  So, the
republicans dropped everything and ran her out on the recall-rail.  Then a
third Republican got annoyed at their treatment of a fellow republican...

I forget where it all ended - I think they finally compromised on a less
obnoxious Republican, but by the time it was all over, it was just about
election time again.  It was hysterically funny at times except that they were
drawing tax-payer funded paychecks.  But then again, perhaps it was worth the
show!  :-)
