I work for the US Geological Survey's Climate History Team.  I would say that
we our research is respectable and legitimate.  I have never seen a case of
'junk science' in my two years of employ here.

I do believe that there is more bad science coming out of the petroleum camp
then to environmental non-profits.  Some very good studies on climate change's impact on biological
systems research has come out of orgs such as the Nature
Conservancy.  Compare that to some of the science that comes out from industry.
I don't trust it as much as I do from other sources, maybe I will trust it in
one of the flagship journals, but not in an independent report from that
industry.
