It definitely isn't an easy disease to transmit. You need it to enter the
bloodstream directly either via needlestick injury or when bodily fluids
enter thru an abrasion/cut/sore site.
Maybe he meant that it's easy for others to be actually carrying it and
showing no symptoms and transmitting it,rather than easy to transmit.
Remember syphilis was a similar danger before penicillin (long lead in time
to second and third stages).
Tuberculosis is very easy to transmit and is very prevalent in the third
world and making a resurgence in the West.
