Oh. Thanks, Karim. :-, That building near Matthew's office is probably a
temple.

Yah, that's basically it. Our temples are our most holy and sacred places, so
one much be deemed worthy of entering the temple before doing so.
Essentially, an interview between me and my bishop determines if I am worthy
enough to recommend myself for entry into the temple.

:-D One thing to consider is that, all the trappings of your stereotypical
Christian church -- the icons, the stained-glass windows, the arches, etc. --
are really secondary to worship, IMHO. In many cases, they serve as useful
reminders of the faith, and in other cases they can be downright distracting.
For example, if my church were to conduct services in a Catholic cathedral
(not sure about the odds on that :-) I'd spend most of my time staring at the
arcitecture and the art with my jaw hanging open, ignoring the real reason for
being there.

But as you indicate here, the almost spartan architecture of an LDS temple can
be just as distracting. :-,

We get that a lot at the Salt Lake City temple. Every gate has at least one
or two protesters. I can't understand it either, except that through
adversity, one is made stronger.
