There is a Temple that was recently dedicated in the Triangle Area in NC, and I
visited and toured it before the dedications (after the dedication, only
"recommended" members are allowed to enter, I believe... Jeremey, you can
correct me if I'm wrong - I'm sure I'm flubbing the terminology). Anyway,
quite interesting. It is divided into a series of small interior spaces each
serving its own function and each one impeccably decorated and clean. It was
necessary for us to wear little plastic booties over our shoes because of the
prevelance of white carpeting throughout the building.
The interior decor & arrangement reminded me not so much of a church, but
rather of a very, very posh corporate executive club or something. It was kind
of cool to see a fairly serious looking projector/sound-system control panel
inside the lectern in one of the rooms, with theater-style seating that
looked more comfortable than any theater I have ever been in...
As a student of architecture, the only thing that had me a little on edge was
the constant and pervasive white motif. Almost everything was white or whitish
or gold, and the color scheme gets kind of monotonous to my eye... but then,
it's not my house :)
IMHO, if you have the chance to tour a Mormon Temple before it is dedicated,
you should... quite interesting. I found it really sad that representatives of
a local baptist group felt the need to use up an entire week of their lives to
no other purpose than to stand outside the Temple grounds and hand out
hate-filled fliers about the "Evils of Mormonism"... Egads People! haven't you
anything better to do with your lives?!?!

| (...) white (...) Oh. Thanks, Karim. :-, That building near Matthew's office is probably a temple. (...) Yah, that's basically it. Our temples are our most holy and sacred places, so one much be deemed worthy of entering the temple before doing so. (...) (25 years ago, 7-Mar-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
