With the threading as broken as it is, this deep in a thread tree, it may be
useful to quote enough of the post that you're replying to for us to find it.
Or are you just ranting against John in general rather than at a specific
post?

Did I break the threading by failing to quote the message?  If so, then this
break is obviously my fault.

Didn't say YOU broke it, merely that it is broken. "this deep in a thread tree"
for various reasons, the reference lines being posted are truncated. Todd has a
proposed fix to cnews that will compensate for (I think in most cases) other
programs that are truncating thread references and making it hard to follow.

Threading IS broken, through no fault of yours or mine (other than that we may
or may not be using posting sw that contributes to the truncation problem)
which is evident if you view this tree either via a newsreader OR via the web
interface. (and of course if you use email interface, context is vitally
important)... Therefore it is a good thing to quote enough context, unless
you're making general comments.

Clear now? It's so tiresome to have to explain everything in excruciating
detail because people are so good at picking at EVERY little missed step.

Or was that some more of your vaunted irony? It's wasted on me.

Why are you so hostile now, of all times, when I've admitted in two separate posts that you were right and I was wrong? Is it because I didn't like Bicentennial Man? (...)
