I’ve forgotten-- didn’t they rule that sacrificing chickens for religious
purposes was illegal for some reason? Maybe they, uh, chickened out and
ruled it an FDA violation or something.
Even if one granted that the most horrible atrocities were perpetrated on
American Indians, it’s no reason to let them violate the law. I suppose no
taxes and casinos aren’t enough. Well I draw the line at bald eagle
hunting.

Readers may be surprised to learn that I don’t know a whole lot about
intra-tribal law, so my comments must be taken with a grain of salt.
To be honest, I don’t know why the Bald Eagle would ever be taken off of the
Endangered Species list. I mean, sure, the number of birds may be rising, but
so what? I’m not even a patriot in the “America Can Do No Wrong” sense, but
even I think that our national bird should be afforded some protection, if only
so we don’t wind up metaphorically honoring the dodo (instead of just voting for
them).
