BTW, I just read The Jesus Papers by Michael Baigent (a review HERE) on vacation (I know you missed me!) which I think you’d find equally interesting, Dave!

While you were gone it was like the sun didn’t rise. Does that sound sincere? Wait, I’ll try again...

That was a very bad Freudian slip the day after Easter;-)

Yeah, afterwards I scolded myself for writing that, but the damage was already posted!

I read Holy Blood, Holy Grail by Baigent et al about 10 years ago, before The Da Vinci Code was even a gleam in Dan Brown’s eye. I’ll take a look at The Jesus Papers when I get the chance.

Ah, yes. And as we speak Baigent is trying to wrest millions from Brown in court WRT these 2 works. Having not read HBHG, I have to say that I found TJP wandering and rather unconvincing at best. He simply raises a bunch of questions based on sketchy arguments and provides a little history. It’s more effective as fiction IMHO.

Ironically, their failed lawsuit would likewise have been more convincing if they’d admitted that HBHG was fiction, too. Instead, they continue to insist that it’s a true, historical account, thereby disemboweling their own litigation.

HBHG is not only rambling, it’s small-type and about a zillion pages. It’s a fun adventure story that doesn’t bear close inspection by knowledgeable readers. I am not a knowledgeable reader in that regard, but I’ve read convincing and thorough critiques that destroy their argument.

At best, one can say that they raise some good questions and point out some cool oddities, but their overall case doesn’t hold water.

I can’t wait to see the motion picture version of TDC, and more importantly, Tom Hanks’ hair!

I haven’t read The Code, but friends who’ve read more than one work by Brown say that they’re all pretty much the same. Still, the subject intrigues me, so at the very least I’ll catch it on DVD.

Dave!

(...) Take it easy on yourself, Dave! At least here you didn't use "scourged", or worse yet, that you flatulented yourself. JOHN (19 years ago, 18-Apr-06, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)
