There is some evidence that dyslexia is caused by making kids learn to read
before their brain is ready for that kind of processing. I'm the first to admit
that it's weak evidence, but there are a bunch of schools that adhere to a
philosophy of letting the kids dictate when they pursue which fields of
learning. Those schools have a very significantly lower dyslexia incidence
rate. (like one such school, over 36 years of operation has never, ever
identified a dyslexic student who went through their school from an early age.)
