Disclaimer: These views are my own and not necessarily those of market.shopping
or loc.uk, they are also not directed towards any individuals - the message I'm
responding to is just the latest!
It is just a *teansy* bit irratating that there have been two requests from
loc.uk to remove that group from the thread:
http://www.lugnet.com/loc/uk/?n=1789
http://www.lugnet.com/loc/uk/?n=1774
Although some people have thankfully removed the irrelevant groups - roughly
30-40% are still coming through.
In this case, I don't believe the cross-postings come from egotistical people,
who want everyone to read what they have to say. I think it's more of a case
that they don't realise that they are cross-posting, that the cross-posting
issue should be given more profile; so that it occurs to more people naturaly.
One way to do this is to use the "[Followups set to lugnet.blah.yap]"
mechanism.
Also - what proportion of people use the web-interface? Would it be possible to
make it more obvious from that perspective? Maybe if the Newsgroups entry box
was the width of the table, or if some other jiggery-pokery counted the numbers
of commas in the field and updated the "All Set?" box.
Maybe I *am* just a "compartmentalised dork", or just a dork, but it occurs to
me that if people continue to cross-post incorrectly and it becomes more
common, then all the work that has taken place to design Lugnets structure
becomes undermined.
[Followups set to lugnet.admin.general]
Play Well,
Richard
