From Webster's New World Dictionary, 3rd Ed.:

{an [atheist] rejects all religious belief and denies the existence of • God}

Some members of the UUA may consider themselves to be atheists, but by • simply
joining the UUA, a religion (which developed out of Judeo-Christian • beliefs, no
less), they are, in essence, stepping outside of atheism (the UUA page • uses the
term "non-theists").  You can't have a formalized religion that rejects • all
religious beliefs.  It's entirely contradictory.

There are UUs who have no religious beliefs (unless you want to claim
"faith" in science as a religious belief). I've only ever heard atheism as
denying the existence of god, even from ministers and divinity students, so
I wonder how valid that Webster's definition is. Even if you take that
definition, there are UUs who would probably still qualify (I have heard
people talk about the Sunday service as a "symposium" or "lecture" to remove
all semblance of religion - though you may not find any UU ministers who
take that extreme).
