James Stewart, son of Mary, Queen of Scots, followed Elizabeth I to the
throne, so didnt Scotland take over England? ;-)

It sounds logical on paper, but after acceding to the English throne, James IV
of Scotland (becoming James I of England) only returned to Scotland once during
the whole of his rule, at which time he basically told them they were worthless
because they werent English. His son was even less generous in his opinion of
the Scottish, and it pretty much just got worse until 1707 when the Scottish
parliament voted to become part of England (thus leading to the revolts of 1715
and 1745). Theyve technically been under English rule, even within Great
Britain, until five years ago when the Scottish parliament was restored.
