Heres Dubya,
spreading diplomacy and understanding around the world with his politics of
personal responsiblity.
And heres the important bit:
I was sorry for the humiliation suffered by the Iraqi prisoners and the
humiliation suffered by their families.
Note that he doesnt say he was sorry for allowing it to happen, or sorry for
failing to fire the idiot Rumsfeld in response, or sorry for invading a nation
he had no business invading. Instead, hes sorry that someone else suffered
humiliation.
In essence, hes made the suffering of humiliation the central action in the
equation, rather than the inflicting of the humiliation, which is really the
issue.
And then theres this:
I told him I was as equally sorry that people seeing those pictures didnt
understand the true nature and heart of America,
Which is to say, Im sorry that those people dont get us. Not Im sorry that
the horrific actions of a few(?) Americans has confirmed the worldwide
perception of our brutality.
Ah, Compassionate Conservatism™, we hardly knew ye.
Dave!
