I like that proof just fine, but when Ive presented it here before (in

Yeah, thats straight from the mouth of Elihu in the Book of Job. Elihu says God
was angry at Job because he justified himself rather than God (Job 32.2): God
is greater than man. Why do you contend against him? (Job 33.12-13).
God even makes an appearance, speaking from the whirlwind: Who is this that
darkens counsel by words without knowledge? (Job 38.2). Then God attacks Job
for daring to question the nature of evil and of God: Gird up your loins like a
man, I will question you, and you shall declare to me. Where were you when I
laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding. Who
determined its measurements - surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon
it? On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its cornerstone, when the morning
stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy? (Job 38.3-7)
The arguments in the Book of Job rest heavily on Gods mysteriousness and
absolute authority: evil exists because God wills it and its existence is not
for us to question. The competing viewpoints presented in the Book of Job
suggest that the rational process of debate is not capable of addressing the
issues involved in developing an understanding of the problem of evil or of
conprehending the nature of the divine.
Any believer can just point to the Book of Job and assert: I dont have to be
rational about God, it says so right here...
