Following the big-corporate push for deregulation (ie sanctioned monopolization)
of the media, which was, of course, approved along party lines despite an
unprecedented flood of public opposition, the FCC voted to raise the limits
imposed on market-dominating companies, not the least of which is owned by
pseudo-patriotic economic parasite Rupert Murdoch. In response to the will of
the people, the House (amazingly) voted 400 to 21 to prevent the FCC vote from
taking effect.
Now, our "uniter-not-a-divider" "compassionate conservative" "man-o-the-people"
appointed president Dubya plans to veto the House's effort, just as Republican
party leaders have vowed to remove language that would otherwise have reined in
the rampant corporate greed.
Dubya was elec-- Excuse me. Dubya *campaigned* on the assertion that he would
change the tone in Washington, and he certainly has managed to make it more
partisan, inflammatory, and militant than it has been in decades.
And let's not forget that Dubya has never failed to avoid responsibility for
anything that's occurred on his watch. Honestly--if 9/11 had happened during
Clinton's Presidency, do you think that Republicans would have been as eager to
prevent an independent inquiry into the matter? Would Republicans have been
content to let one (or even several) of Clinton's underlings take the blame?
Dave!
