I blame the insurance industry and taxes. When all the costs of living
increase and taxes rise, Corporate America wants to cut costs and Ma-n-Pa
shops don't pay enough.
Not too long ago people earning half my wage could pay for a house, car,
property, and support a family on one income. There is something
nightmarishly wrong when somone earning approx. 30k a year can barely pay
for a car and it's insurance.
I was mostly jobless for about year. It was a nightmare. I needed a decent
paying job so I could support my family *and* keep paying on the car and its
insurance. I wouldn't settle for less. Less would have cost us the car and
potentially our children.
What precisely happens in America when a family is down on it's luck and
social services find out the children are not being cared for "properly"?
What happens when a family loses it's income, transportation, and hope?
I've read about families being torn asunder by the State for far less dire
circumstances.
Fortunately, I dind't have to find out. I've had an income for the past
nine months as a temp and will begin full-time status tomorrow. I've been
near the bottom, and don't intend to go back...
