Eschewing open competitive bidding, the Bush administration has allowed few
corporations to submit proposals for rebuilding Iraq. The latest winner,
awarded $680 million to rehab power, water and sewage systems, is Bechtel,
one of the biggest political givers in the general contracting industry. And
the Bush-ites are as thick as thieves with these guys.
That's right -- no WMD, big corporate contracts.
Keep telling yourself that you live in a democratic republic where your vote
matters. Perhaps someday even you will believe it.

The chief UN weapons inspector, Hans Blix, remains open- minded about
whether Iraq had such weapons, but is highly critical of Britain and the US.
He accused them of planning the war "well in advance" and of "fabricating"
evidence against Iraq.
