<snip lotsa good stuff!>

     God Bless you!

I'm assuming you read Dave Schuler's comments about the innapropriateness of
your closing your posts (particularly ones aimed at me) in this manner in
the context of a debate about the nature of God, so I am now forced to take
your continued use of "God Bless you!" (now emphasized with an exclation
point) as tantamount to you thumbing your nose at me.  I don't appreciate
it, and will not continue to debate you if this sort of thing continues.

Also, the "what I have accepted as, *and is*, true" comes off as, "oh, and
by the way, even if my arguments aren't particularly convincing to you, just
remember, the important thing is: I'm right, and you're wrong".  Not the
most civil way to sign off.

-Rev. Smith

I agree with your stance on the 'thumbing of the nose' that the 'God bless
you' and, as such, it really shouldn't be said in this thread, or directed
at RBPS or others who have voiced their displeasure of that particular sign-off.

It is 'playing nice', as in appreciating the other persons personal
preference--it causes no harm to the person *not* to say it, and there is no
affront to the person who doesn't want to hear it, and the discussion can
continue merrily along.

That said (not to dwell on this issue), signing off as 'Rev. Smith' and
calling yourself Rev. BPS is equally tantamount to 'thumbing your nose' at
Christians.  You have mentioned your unappreciation of the faith and your,
well, maybe scorn is too harsh a word but I have no other at this time, to
people of the cloth, so by taking their prefix, 'Rev', you are, by my read,
belittling the profession--'Oh, Rev. is meaningless to the point I can add
it to my name.'  It's like if I didn't like Larry, and he knew there was
animosity between us, and I started signing my name as '++Dav'--I'm
basically goading a response(1).

So, imho, the 'God bless' directed specifically at people who have voiced
their unappreciation of the blessing, and the 'Rev. Smith' are equally
provoking in the context in which they are presented.

Only if I were to get worked up about things.

Dave K.
(1) To be clear, there is no issues b/w Larry and myself--I find him to be
wise and his support of this community is inspiring--I only used it as an
example.

Since I generally agree with DaveE's comments, I will try to not to repeat his arguments too much here, assuming you will reply to his post. (...) Yes, we are debating God's character as presented in the Bible, so in this context it only makes sense (...) (22 years ago, 5-Dec-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
