If I were to wax philosophical, like Mr. Lehman, days would seem like
millennia, if I were to wax philosophical. ;-)
Perhaps -- and this is purely guesswork -- time was conceived to allow good
things to happen.
It's pretty much stated in Genesis what each day was used for. Looking at
Genesis, God had certain tasks to accomplish, in a certain order, before the
world was finished; e.g. he saw a void, created light, divided light from
darkness, gave them a name, etc. and this took up a day. Again presumably,
He took the time to do it right.
Another thing you have to consider is that God said, "Let there be light";
and then He saw it and that it was good (i.e. He gave it an inspection) --
suggesting that He had help, arguably a host of angels, with at least some
of the creation. Administrative tasks being what they are, I wouldn't be
surprised if most of the day was taken up by that.

Nah. I'm sure He had most of it worked in His head out before He started to
work on it.
