I spent the last week or so working in NW USA. During my time there I spent
some time with a few of the people I met mulling over the events of the
previous year, and what the future may hold. On the morning of Sept 11 I
took time out to attend a memorial / commemorative / tribute service in
Portland. I found all of this very uplifting.
However, I found it very difficult to reconcile my own personal experiences
and interactions with the the main "news" networks' view of the world. I
found that on the days running up to Sept 11 they continually switched
directly between stoking paranoia, speculating on the Iraq situation,
plucking 911 heartstrings, "paying tribute to the dead" and showing slow
motion footage of death and destruction from 911.
I know I can be cynical at times, but is this really what the American
Public wants?
