I'm sure FDR would have a bone to pick with you if he was alive.

And I with him. Didn't work then (his shenanigans prolonged a depression
that was caused by other politicians meddling) and doesn't work now. Please
provide an example of a country that's socialist that works.

I don't really have to: it's you that needs to prove that virtually every
single country on the planet is a failure.

I said that every country practices socialism to some degree or another.
You are stating that socialism doesn't work.  Inasmuch as there are quite a
number of countries going on a stable fashion, I think that is adequate
proof (except to the pendantically argumentative whom have an axe to grind).

If you choose a
mixed economy be prepared to demonstrate that it's not the unsocialistic
part that's carrying the country along. (c.f. Canada for example)

Why should I have to prove that?  It doesn't matter if it is the
unsocialistic part that is carrying the socialistic part as long as the
country as a whole is working.  If you feel it is important, be prepared to
show how it is.  Further, I also said it doesn't matter if it is the *best*
method, just that the method is working.  You are the one that made the
blanket statement that socialism doesn't work.  At all.  It's a religion
(because it doesn't work).  I think since you are the one making the
outrageous claim, the burden of proof lies on you.

But don't feel like you have to, because I really was just gently teasing
you by pointing out how many political philosophies are subject to the same
claims of religious fevor.  I don't see you actually denying my point about
Libertarianism.  ;-)

(...) This I think is the crux so I snipped the rest. If a car has a flat tire, but the driver is driving it down the road because the other three tires are OK, is the car "working"? One could argue that it is. After all, the car is moving in the (...) (22 years ago, 13-Sep-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
