Definition:
troll (trol) verb
To post a message in a newsgroup or other online conference in the hopes
that somebody else will consider the original message so outrageous that it
demands a heated reply.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For further consideration, the use of the word "troll" as a noun (definition
under contruction):
1. Is a troll someone that doesn't read other's thoughtful replies and then
respond to them in a meaningful way?
2. Is a troll someone that continues to ask questions about issues
anticipated and already addressed?
3. Is a troll someone who argues with an obvious hidden agenda, but then
denies that agenda?
4. Is a troll someone who clearly lacks specific knowledge of the subject
under discussion but pretends otherwise?  [Not to be confused with honest
inquiry!]
5. Is a troll someone that misquotes information, or presents information in
a pointedly misleading way?
6. Is a troll someone whose only purposes seem to be to infuriate others
with the obtuseness and ignorance of the troll, and/or to electronically
publish some kind of generally unsupportable propaganda?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Recommended method of pest control:

If you have been confronted with the presence of a troll, the best approach
is to leave this person talking to him/herself.  The debate has been won --
only the troll doesn't know it, nor would s/he ever admit it even if s/he
did.  It amuses the troll to see how many ways you can say the same things
and still not make them see reason.  The troll is not reasonable, nor does
s/he intend to be. Leaving the troll absolutely alone makes the troll feel
exactly the way you do when you try to reason with the troll.
