Of course many of the repeat viewings will be satisfied from cache and
will take very little Brickshelf bandwidth (some is still used to check
to see if the file has changed).
I'm afraid we will have to let Kevin publish some stats on bandwidth use
before we can really make any assumptions about overall bandwidth used.
The data should also be carefully collected, because if an image is
being viewed once by 1000 people that should be considered differently
than an image which is viewed by 10 people but downloaded 100 times
because of viewing patterns. The first instance I would tend to say may
have "general LEGO community appeal" since so many people are looking at
it.
But again, I think it is dangerous to assume that just because a
particular image has a very small audience that it should not be allowed
on Brickshelf.
If Kevin is to apply some rules about what constitutes "general interest
to the LEGO community" which don't include these avatars, he should take
care in making sure that it is a reasonable and self consistent rule. I
think it would be possible to create such a rule, but it's not easy.
