You're still inviting him to step outside.  You aren't staying in the bar to
smash a bottle over his head, but you ARE inviting some kind of further
agression.  Why?

HE is the one who initially chose to be aggressive, not me. I never offered
any deliberate provocation and never insulted his views, opinions or
statements. When I told him to mind his tone (and this is not the first
time), HE continued to be rude and aggressive. HE wants to be the tough guy
here, not me. HIS posts constantly reflect crudity and aggression, not mine.
So I reminded him that his ONLY domain where he can treat me with hostility
and get away with it is on-line. HE immediately said otherwise, suggesting
he'd share his needless hostility face-to-face. That's the way HE wants to
be so let HIM try. I'm not impressed and I'm not rolling over. HE wants to
talk like a bully, so let HIM prove it. If he wants to be a man, come say it
to my face. Otherwise, enough with the bullsh*t.

What if he did come down to LA, ring your doorbell, and treat you rudely from
your porch?  Would you, as your multiple notes imply (imply strongly, but
imply only...there has been no real threat), respond physically?

That's for him to find out. I repeat, I'm not seeking him out. If he's going
to play the tough guy role on-line and be harsh to people, expect that
people will resist and speak up for themselves. He can continue to hide
behind his computer and sling insults with impunity or he can start behaving
like a decent, considerate human being and be more constructive in his
posts. That's all I have to say on this matter. My sincerest apologies for
offending anyone, including Tom, but unprovoked hostility is unnacceptable.

Dan

(...) My last word on this - you are the only one showing hostility. I may be rude (In your mind), but if you equate rudeness to hostility, you have issues you need to work out with a therapist. That's it, I'm done with you. You can say all you want (...) (23 years ago, 19-Jun-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
