Re: OS advocacy (was: Re: Perl rules!)

I missed something. So you can spend $2800 piecing together (...) (25 years ago, 27-Jul-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: OS advocacy (was: Re: Perl rules!)

(...) Well, that's a good point. I could buy a prebuilt machine that matches that G3's specs for $1626. Basically the same machine I just ordered for myself at work minus the 21" monitor. And I won't have to buy a real keyboard and mouse in addition (...) (25 years ago, 27-Jul-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: OS advocacy (was: Re: Perl rules!)

(...) I frankly don't know all the specs of all the machines around, but WRT the machines that I have around, I can count on the Macs being ~30% more expensive and a variable amount faster in ways that I find important. I've been using SETI@home as (...) (25 years ago, 27-Jul-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: What happened?

(...) Well if you believe you can point us to a theoretical proof I'd be interested to see it (seriously). I'd have to say however that I'd be extremely sceptical of any proofs, because. (1) The theory of the free market relies on a number of (...) (25 years ago, 27-Jul-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: Government's role [Was: Re: What happened?]

(...) Apparently Lugnuts aren't easily duped into such thinly veiled trolls <except me> Me: FISHED IN, FISHED IN;-) -John (...) (25 years ago, 27-Jul-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: What happened?

(...) No empirical evidence that's definitive, but theoretical proofs exist, (and not based on invisible heat sorting demons or market information communicators). Further, the less intervention there is, the longer the booms last and the less severe (...) (25 years ago, 27-Jul-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: What happened?

(...) So you are arguing that if you remove all Government intervention, then there won't be any business cycles? You are also apparently arguing that there has always been Government intervention? You appear to have argued yourself into a corner, (...) (25 years ago, 27-Jul-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: OS advocacy (was: Re: Perl rules!)

(...) Faster? In what way, running what apps? Sorry, but having used everything from the original lunchbox to the latest blue+white G3 on the Mac side and everything from the 8086 to a fully tripped-out P3-550, it ain't so. Maybe at various times (...) (25 years ago, 27-Jul-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Extropianism

(...) As determined by what? Film studies majors? Happy endings sell better. (25 years ago, 26-Jul-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: What happened?

(...) Your example is spurious. My kids were covered before they were born... under as private an insurance system as I could find at the time. And if they had had birth defects that prebirth testing could have discovered, we would not have had (...) (25 years ago, 26-Jul-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
