Several years ago, in a computer controlled machining class, I designed my first
clone brick--in aluminum. The bricks are exactly the same size as the offical
thing, and work pretty well with each other or with “the leading brand.” Mostly
it was a fun little CNC project, but it also made a much more durable keychain
than an ABS brick. I designed a fixture to hold a couple at a time, and made
several dozen bricks, which sold quite successfully.
After being out of stock several years and not having access to a CNC mill, I
finally found a way to make more. You can get your own at

Right now, I’m offering custom engraved logos or text on each brick, but I can’t
promise that option will be around for long, so if you would like a personalized
design, please pre-order as soon as possible!
