Warning--this post contains info about a clone brand, but its relevant to LEGO,
so bear with me...
TRU currently has a bunch of stuff with green price tags and signs all over the
store proclaiming an additional 30% off green-tagged items. Sounds groovy,
right?
This item caught my eye yesterday. It originally retailed for $79.99, and the
green tag listed it for $69.99. With the 30% discount, that comes to about
$48.99, or 39% off the original price. Sweet deal, right?
Well, not quite. Months ago my local TRU overstocked this item and subsequently
reduced the asking price to $49.99. It seems that, immediately prior to the
green-tag sale, they bumped the price up almost to full MSRP, and well above
what theyd been asking just days before. The net result is that the 30%
discount is actually just under 1% off of the price theyd set previously.
Is this legit? I recall KB toys getting into some trouble over pretty much the
same kind of price-tweaking, but I cant remember the result. Its a crappy
move IMO, however you slice it.
Has anyone spotted this happening with LEGO or other products?
Dave!

I have unfortunately bought it, and regretted it ever since. There is hardly (...) (19 years ago, 28-Jul-05, to lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands, FTX)
