They are both new (about five years) and small (operating out of NYC office
space). As pulled from this
article:
Art Asylum is a relatively small and relatively new toy company, the
co-presidents of A Call to Arms said. They have a staff of about 18
incredibly talented and hard working people...
Compared to toy companies like Hasbro and Mattel, which probably have at least
that many people with job titles that either start with chief or end with
president, that positively dinky. In fact, theyre small enough that a lot of
the toy lines that they design are marketed by other toy companies instead of
sold directly through them.

theyve produced the popular Minimates line of block like action figures
(similar to Kubricks) as well as the absolutely fantastic Starship Legends
line. They created the new C3 line to complement the minimates line (mostly
for Batman).

Most of the toy lines that they produce are catering to niche markets (like
Eminem, Dark Angel, and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon action figures) with toys
that are designed more for serious collectors than kids who want something to
play with, so theyre not well known outside of the crowd who buy/read Toy Fare
magazine.
