I am very surprise that LEGO and Mega Block can have a license for a Marvel
character at the same time....  pretty sad!

IIRC, LEGO has a license for the movie related stuff, via Sony(?), rather than
directly for Marvel characters from Marvel.

However customers won't necessarily know or care about the distinction, and I
expect Mega Blocks will possibly be able to do a nice coattail ride on LEGO's
previous marketing efforts...

Yes indeed, this is quite a coup for MegaBloks.  Previous licenses have worked
pretty well for them, but they haven't really landed a big-time license until
this.  And LEGO's work so far with Spider-Man will be nothing but a boon.  I
can't help wondering why LEGO licensed the film-based Spider-Man rather than the
character itself.

Minimates currently has a Marvel license for near-LEGO-scale figures, and
there's a non-LEGO-compatible construction toy brand that sells Spider-Man and
Hulk playsets, so I guess the simultaneous licensing isn't that weird.  Even
Jurassic Park was licensed by Byggis before LEGO, just as Byggis had a TMNT
license before MegaBloks.

By the way--I suspect that the squarish Hulk sculpture was just for display,
rather than for sale as a set.  Here's an earlier example that preceded the
current TMNT sets:

So far, MegaBloks hasn't released any figure-based sculpture sets, so if they
were to do one of Hulk (et al.) it would be a new direction for them.

Dave!
