My local TRU has the entire line of BTR sets (Transformers, GI Joe, and Tonka)
on 50% clearance. Well, they say 50%, but sets that were $12.98 are not $6.98,
etc.
Obviously, this speaks poorly of BTRs outlook, but it affords the opportunity
to acquire these otherwise comparatively overpriced sets. I own about six of
them, and the quality is surprisingly good for a johnny-come-lately clone brand.
Ive given verbose reviews previously, so Ill simply restate here that the
plastic quality is at least as good as true LEGO, and theres a wealth of cool
elements, even if some of them are too specifically tailored to be useful other
than the way theyre used in the sets primary models. For me, the best feature
of the BTR sets is the surface detail molded into a whole bunch of pieces.
I picked up the Tonka Rescue Shuttle for $9.98 (despite my protests elsewhere
re: tight funding). This set has a wider range of useful elements than other
BTR sets Ive bought, including five engine cylinders in dark gray (broadly
similar to LEGO part 30360), five 6x6 cone/engine elements in yellow, and several wing elements with
surface detailing.
Im not really surprised to see this product line suffering, except to say that
Hasbro went to a lot of trouble to make the molds (each stud has the embossed
BTR logo). Quite an investment of capital to fail after little more than a year
on the market, if indeed the line is failing, rather than going through a
temporary slump

| (...) I just discovered BTR this weekend, and OH MY GOODNESS. I couldn't believe the level of quality. They are all on half price at my Toys R Us as well, but I didn't take this as a bad sign (at least not bad for BTR), since this is the first time (...)
