I find it altogether interesting they're putting in a great effort to fill
in the gaps where Lego has left off... these Dragon lines in the stead of
castle, the military line (which I am awed by every time I pass it by in a
store) and so forth. It's almost they have lurkers about, seeing what the
online lego community is up to, and then are trying to approximate it.

Yep, certainly seems so. It must be an easier road on patents (lots of ways
to do a hull, but precious few to do a compatible brick). All the same,
their genres have consistently proved more compelling to me in recent years
compared to something as costly as Basketball or Soccer, their
large-piece-count (military) sets are getting more and more attractive.
And I used to be a purist! Lego's quality edge is substantial, without
doubt, but I used to believe in Lego's exclusivity. Now I'm half-hoping the
upcoming surge in pirate/Naval films will kick the Bloks people into the
Pirate world... even if for variety alone.
Noble Lego redcoats vs. savage Bloks pirates... now *there's* a rivalry!
