I'm afraid that for Legnet's FTX formatting to work, you have to have your post set to "Formatted text(FTX)" (instead of "Plain text") from the pulldown menu above. Then your post will show up like this: (...) HTH :^) (17 years ago, 6-May-08, to lugnet.off-topic.test, FTX)

What you're doing there is setting the current document's URL to some value-- in this case some URL that looks like: (URL) that will open the new URL just fine, it'll just take the place of your current document.
