I'm sure Tim's dry-cleaner will be happy to know that
he's "not a leaker." :) (No, I expect these are legit
NTF pics and not leaks.)

I do hope they won't wait to release the set or pull it.
It's the "Discovery", after all. But I'm not sure that
this has the same disaster valence that the WTC (for ex-
ample) did; the Apollo 1 fire didn't stop kids' dreams
of stepping on the moon and it didn't stop rocket toys.
That said, I don't think TLC should do anything to make
a reference to STS-107. That might be seen as profiteer-
ing or some other crass move; as it is, that potential
might be the *only* thing that delays or scuppers the
release of the set. Release it as is (and as the boxes
are likely already printed), and for the 2004 line, put
additional space-exploration-themed Model Team sets on
the docket. If nothing else, that will get kids dreaming
about space the way we did in the 1970s again, and that's
what NASA (and I would argue all of humanity!) needs
in its future engineers.
Despite not knowing that crew, what I've seen and read
from shuttle crewmembers indicates that they're of one
mind regarding the dangers and importance of their work:
I remember seeing an interview with one of the pilots of
a shuttle (name escapes me) where he said that were he
to be lost in the line of duty, the greatest tribute would
be to not only carry on but redouble the march of progress
in space. I'd like to think that these seven would have
been of similar mind (and all indications are that they
were). So there's no conflict for me; maybe I'll grab
7470 for just that reason.
