Recently I built the 2556 Shell Ferrari. It is truly a great model,
particularly so cosidering all those curves in the real car it models after.
(See <http://www.shell-ferrari.com/>, in particular
<http://www.shell-ferrari.com/html/gallery/photo/pho_prix.htm>.) In
comparison, 5540, the previous Model Team racer, looks boxy.
My only complaint is that I don't like the way it uses half-arch pieces to
mimic the fins on the side of the car. (See
<http://www.shell-ferrari.com/assets/images/gallery/97_season/monaco/pic5.jpg>
for how the fins looked like in 1997.) I will probably redo the fins with
plates and hinges.
One thing puzzles me: Of the top side of 2556, part of it is covered by tiles
and part of it has the studs exposed. Why? Some places might be covered by
tiles for the applying of stickers. Still, this cannot explain all the
discrepancies.
Cheers,
Hao-yang Wang

| (...) Maybe they did it to anti-alias the jaggy profile of the hood. The exposed studs are sort-of halfway between the two levels of tiles. Steve (25 years ago, 3-Feb-00, to lugnet.modelteam)
