I worked that crossword as well (and no, I didn't use
http://www.oneacross.com ) and my reaction was about the same as when I run
across a computer-related clue. Since that's what I do for a living, there's
no way I'm going to make the same association as the crossword constructor
(unless that person is also a computer geek and does x-words on the side).
I'm hard-pressed to come up with an eight-letter answer that makes sense,
though.
