LEGO Company Responds to Judgment

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Story Filed: Friday, May 31, 2002 3:27 PM EST

BILLUND, Denmark, May 31, 2002 (Canada NewsWire via COMTEX) -- The Federal
Court of Canada has issued a judgment dated May 24, 2002 dismissing an action
for an injunction and damages brought by Kirkbi AG, the owner of the LEGO(R)
trade mark rights in Canada, against Montreal-based Mega Bloks, Inc. for
passing off micro MEGA BLOKS products as those of the LEGO Group. The trial
was
held in Toronto in January and February, 2002.

According to Poul Hartvig Nielsen, General Counsel of the LEGO Group
headquartered in Billund, Denmark, "The LEGO Group remains committed to the
belief that the public interest is best served by competition among original
products, and not copying, which has the effect of confusing the public.
Although we are disappointed that the Court found against us on the technical
legal issue of functionality, we are gratified to see that the Court found in
our favor on a number of key points, including the fact that the LEGO Group
enjoys substantial goodwill in Canada, which is attributable at least in part
to the shape of the popular LEGO bricks. Other key points include the fact
that
the activities of Mega Bloks have caused consumer confusion, and that the LEGO
Group has suffered damage. In view of the important legal issues involved, the
LEGO Group is giving careful consideration to an appeal."

Based in Billund, Denmark, the LEGO Company, family-owned and privately- held
since its founding in 1932, is a world leader in providing quality products
and
experiences that stimulate children's creativity, imagination and learning
through playful activities that encourage hands-on, minds-on creation, fun,
togetherness and sharing of ideas. Company employees are guided by the motto
adopted in the 1930s by founder Ole Kirk Christiansen: "Only the best is good
enough." For more information, visit www.LEGO.com.
